Should high schools require students to read the "classics"?

Matthew Rodriguez 3/8/19 Period 6 Mr. Stephens     I think high schools should read the classics because they give us different skills such as critical thinking and helps us with the old big words. When its hard to understand, if you push yourself to think about what it means it can help you in the future. It can provide someone with a passion of literacy with a lot of knowledge and a position in that field. Although to "ignite a fire in literacy" I say before you introduce to students to classics they should work their way up to it so its easier to understand. When you introduce them right away it could potentially "extinguish the fire of literacy" because they might not understand as much as someone with experience.

How can we apply academic writing to our own?

Matthew Rodriguez Period 6    We can apply the concepts of academic writing to our own writing by adding the elements to make our writings better. We do this because we want our writings to be professional and scholarly worthy. No one wants to have a lousy writing and submit it so we add academic writing to our own to make it presentable.
